Education
I hold a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) degree from the Wellington Campus of Cape Peninsula University of Technology, where teacher education programmes are offered in Afrikaans as part of the Faculty of Education. The B.Ed is a four-year undergraduate professional qualification that prepares students for a career as a classroom teacher and educational professional. My training combined theoretical knowledge in pedagogy, curriculum studies, educational psychology, and classroom management with extensive practical teaching experience, including structured teaching practice in school settings. The programme emphasised inclusive and differentiated instruction strategies, assessment design, and the development of lesson plans aligned with national curriculum standards. As part of this qualification, I gained the skills necessary to plan, deliver, and assess effective learning experiences for diverse learners, and to foster positive learner development both academically and socially.
I completed a 140-hour TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certification through TEFL.CO, which provided comprehensive training in English language instruction methodologies for non-native speakers. The course covered: English grammar and language structure Lesson planning and classroom management Teaching receptive and productive skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking) Error correction techniques Teaching young learners and adult students Assessment and progress evaluation In addition, I completed a 20-hour Online Teaching Certification, focused specifically on: Delivering effective virtual lessons Using digital teaching platforms and educational technology Managing student engagement in online environments Adapting materials for remote learning This training equipped me with both theoretical knowledge and practical strategies to deliver structured, engaging, and results-driven ESL instruction in both classroom and online settings.
